As I’ve mentioned previously this week, the non-season seasons really irk me, as an accessories lover. Even Louis Vuitton, a company that knows where its bread is buttered (the brand didn’t even start making ready-to-wear until Marc Jacobs’ advent in the 90s), doesn’t release handbag shots with its standard lookbook for pre-season collections. C’mon, Vuitton, throw us a bone!
Because we have so many LV addicts in our audience, though, I thought I’d publish the lookbook itself, which includes several peeks at what this line will have to offer, purse-wise. There’s a little fur, a little matte leather and a little bit of saturated color. In short, most of these bags are a whole lot of wearable. I’ll take the emerald green duffel right now, thank you. While cutting the photos for yesterday’s post about Louis Vuitton’s Spring 2012 runway bags, I almost missed this little darling. Cutting photos is mind-bendingly tedious work, and it’s easy to glaze over and become something of a Photoshop robot while in the process, particularly for a show as handbag-heavy as Vuitton‘s. Just before I went into full zombie mode, though, I realized that a lone model wasn’t carrying a bag at all, but instead a Louis Vuitton Flask.

But this wasn’t the only flask to make an appearance on the Paris runways. Hermes showed one too, and it had a neck strap so that you wouldn’t get sauced and lose it. How convenient! For a photo of that one (and a Friday-appropriate discussion of all the designer boozing to be done), you have to make the jump.

Details are sketchy on these item in particular, but based on the photo, it appears to be half logo-etched stainless steel (or maybe LV will get fancy and go with sterling silver?) and half white crocodile. You know what that means, ladies? White croc stains like you wouldn’t believe, so no dark liquor shall pass the neck of this delicate flask. Clear booze only! That means vodka, gin, white rum and fancy tequila are all Vuitton-approved. Whiskey of all varieties, spiced rum and the Cuervo Gold you drank in college? No way.
And then there’s the Hermes flask, which has a different aesthetic quality entirely. It’s colorblock and modern, which should help with spillage, theoretically. Except that it’s suede, so Jeeves (let’s face it, no one who actually uses an Hermes flask is filling it herself) is going to have to be extra careful with that little funnel that comes packaged with flasks to make filling easy. From what I understand, Hermes women only drink gin, so at least there won’t be any unsightly brown stains on the yellow portion.

We try and make it a point to do Man Bag Monday for one reason and one reason only – bags made for men can be every bit as stylish and beautiful as those made for women, and a lot of them are so nice that I wouldn’t think twice about carrying one. Androgyny is in! Just as Andrej Pejic.

And that’s what kept me so transfixed by these pictures that Vlad took of Brad Goreski outside of the Salvatore Ferragamo Resort 2012 show in New York a few weeks ago. His Louis Vuitton Keepall 45 Bandouliere could be carried by literally anyone and look chic.

For some reason, this bag has been playing tricks on me. Initially, I assumed it was one of Louis Vuitton’s men’s travel bags. But then, the size of the bag started making me second-guess myself, and I thought perhaps it was the biggest version of Sofia Coppola’s hugely successful leather bags for Vuitton. But the women’s bags come with a clochette instead of a luggage tag, which this satchel very clearly has, so perhaps the 45s just aren’t as big in real life as they are in my mind. For those hell-bent on traditional masculinity, this design is probably best left for use as an overnight bag or carry-on, but I think it works equally well as a bag to carry to the office. If the lady of the house doesn’t steal it first, that is. Buy through Louis Vuitton. I can’t tell which leather Brad’s bag is, but the Epi version sells for $1890.

Normally on Man Bag Monday, we highlight a single men’s accessory that we love. This week, we have the pleasure of bringing you detailed shots of the accessories from the recent Louis Vuitton Spring 2012 runway show, from the bags all the way down to the shoes.

There are also some scarves and watches thrown in for good measure, but as with the Vuitton’s women’s shows, the leather goods are the real stars of the show. And predictably, they’re excellent: Sharp and modern with a strong base in traditional design, which is exactly the type of thing that men go for on the luxury mass market. For the past few years, Louis Vuitton has been on such a great roll with resort collections, and for good reason. The brand’s identity is built around the idea of luxury travel, so it follows naturally that it would be particularly suited to a season that came about out of the need for pre-season travel goods for those who have the money and flexibility to escape the winter weather in less exotic locales.

Vuitton, in partnership with longtime muse and current aesthetic collaborator Sophia Coppola, have dreamed up a grand Parisian adventure from the back of a scooter for Louis Vuitton Resort 2012. Because of Coppola’s involvement, the bags include several colorful versions of her popular satchel, but the real standouts were the leopard print helmets. The introduction of a new Louis Vuitton Speedy is always cause for celebration among handbag fiends, and we think that this particular bag will be of wide interest. The Louis Vuitton Speedy Bandoulière is similar to the monogram Speedy that we all know and love, but it brings with it the thoroughly modern addition of an integrated shoulder strap. Optional straps have long been available for purchase to clip onto the traditional Speedy’s handle attachments, but this dedicated strap brings with it a design logic that is lacking in a simple add-on.

The 25 with a strap is a little ridiculous in my opinion. But it looks good with the 40. It’s perfect for the women who find the keepall too big.

How different is this from just buying the strap from your existent Speedy? You mentioned that the “dedicated strap brings with it a design logic that is lacking in a simple add-on”. But from the pictures I can’t really tell the difference.
